What?

Enjoy some pie on the Pi day with Cecília Salgado! The talk will be on error correctiong codes.

Abstract: Whenever data is transmitted across a channel, errors are the norm rather than the exception. The goal of error-correcting codes is to ensure that such errors can be detected and corrected. It has been an extremely active field of research since its birth in the 1940s, gathering people from computer science, mathematics, and more recently physics. In this talk, I will explain to the audience what an error-correcting code is, and how tools learned in courses such as Kaleidoscope Mathematics, Linear Algebra, and Algebraic Structures are useful to construct them.
